Show TRADE AND BUSINESS. The special Interest of the week in this city has been the so-called water famine, decreed officially for personal and political purposes. This In splto of the fact that millions of gallons of pure water are running to waste from the artesian wells nt the southeast corner of Liberty park, and other millions daily in the various street ditches, from the canal; not potable water, but as good as any for sprinkling the streets Though this water famine, so-called, is officially proclaimed, the hiernrchs and their friends are allowed to take and waste the water In unlimited quantities at all hours and times, but threats of prosecution are launched at the general gen-eral public if any one of the common people takes any water save as prescribed pre-scribed by the ofllclals. It is a condition condi-tion that tells against tho city without cause, retards business, drives away prospective settlers and investors, and exasperates the present inhabitants. The public demands tho use of the water wa-ter that is available, and an equal deal in the use of water by all citizens; but the servile municipal administration, in pursuance of a political deal with the hlerarch, which included extraordinary latitude in the franchise for his street railway and electric lighting system, refuses .absolutely to take any steps to meet the situation, either by utilizing tho available water or by treating all citizens nllke in the use of what water is available. ' And yot, so strong Is this olty In trade and financial resources, that even j;hls evil course on the part of the present city administration cannot repress its business and gr.owth. Tho bank clearances clear-ances the past week showed a gain of 79.3 per cent compared with those of tho corresponding week last year. Added Add-ed to this the excellent crop season, and the high prices for all farm products, and it Js seen that tho prosperity is general nnd widespread. The prospective prospect-ive price for wool next spring is also a strong factor for financial confidence, as at a price materially exceeding., twenty cents a pound, tho wool clip of next spring to be marketed here, will bring considerably over three million dollars. " Business in this city is strong and active; it is well gauged by the striking increase of 79.3 per cent in tho bank ' clearances here, compared with those of tho corresponding week last year. The expansion of trade Is remarkable, and the business und financial condition of the city is constantly on the up grade. The really market Is strong, with prices firmly held. Building operations are general throughout tho city, chiefly in the construction of dwellings. The mines of tho State continue their great output of half a million dollars a "week.
