Show ENLIST. There Is but one general Issue In Utah until that Issue Is settled; It Is the controversy between the American people and the Mormon church hierarchy. hie-rarchy. There Is but one general choice that the people of Utah can make In this controversy; and that choice must be sharply decisive. It Is a choice between the side of the Nation and tho side of the church. There Is no half-way ground. The Gon'tilcs who approve the Gentile cause In Utah and the Nation will join the Gentllo forces In the fray. The Gentiles who approve the church, or prefer the church to tho existing Gentllo organization, organi-zation, will directly or indirectly aid the church in the coming conflict. There are some Gentiles who believe that tho old fight never should have been relinquished, and yet who feel that the old fight should not be resumed. re-sumed. They distrusted the Mormon promises during the period preparatory to Statehood, and they have since pointed to the violations of covenant as a proof that their fears were well founded; but for some reason host known to, themselves they contend that the present Gentllo movement Is Inadvisable, Inad-visable, or had a wrong origin, or Is wrongly led, and that they cannot affiliate with It. These arc not many, and they ni-2 Important because of the sentiment which clusters around them and their past glorious deeds, rather than by virtue of their present force of numbers. It Is a misfortune that even one Gentllo should fall to see his duty because of some personal prejudice, or because of some commercial or personal per-sonal relation recently grown up between be-tween himself and the church. It Is unfortunate because the Issue Is irrevocably irrev-ocably drawn; and every Gentile who Is not on the Gentile side will find himself him-self on the church side. If this fight were being made for any man, for any political party, for any less splendid purpose than tho redemption redemp-tion of a State, The Tribune would not feel justified In calling upon all Gentiles Gen-tiles to rally around their Hag. But because be-cause that fight Is the fight of the old times renewed, because this fight Is the light of the new time coming, because this fight is the fight of civilization against barbarism, The Tribune, as a mere voice for Genlllism and not the leader of the cause, urges every Gentile to enlist In the battle. y |
