Show STANDARD OIL MUDDLE. Peculiar Work Is Alleged in Matter of Indictments. PEORIA May 12. According to a statement state-ment made today to the Associated Press there was no error In the requisition papers pa-pers for the two Indicted Standard Oil officials, presented to the Governor recently, re-cently, but tho authorities at Springfield, acting presumably on the advice of the Attorney-General's office refused to grant them, on the ground that ao the alleged al-leged subornation of perjury was commuted com-muted In Ohio, the men should he punish, pun-ish, d there Mr. Schaef.-r State's Attorney, say that h does not believe that the Governor ever saw the papers and that he Is going to lav the matter before him personally. Sheriff Ciav of Tazewell county took the papers to Springfield and they were presented pre-sented to the Governor's secretarv Later they were returned to him with the statement state-ment that thev would not be signed, for the reasons given ab"v.- Mr. Schaefer Is now convinced that a secret service man in the employ of the Standard Oil company was present during tho session of the grand Jury which Indicted In-dicted tho two official" |
