Slocum. The blow waB struck by a fireman who rescued the woman from drowning. Mrs. Gessman Jumped from the hurricane hur-ricane deck of thc Slocum. She was seen struggling In the water by a fireman fire-man who leaped to the rescuoi He was caught by thc drowning woman who choked him with a death grip so tenacious that Anally he was compelled com-pelled to render her unconscious with a blow of his fist. He then swam with her to shore. She was hurried to a hospital, hos-pital, but a slight cut produced by the fireman's fist developed erysipelas and caused tho woman's death.
