LIQUOR MEN AND DRUG STORE LICENSE Soda Fountain Managers Deny That "Booze" Ia Sold by Them: SOME of the fair box are; up-In arms against the horrid saloon men who on Thursday took steps to stop the sale of dainty boor.o confections confec-tions at the different drug store soda fountains. The fair ones think it le a rank Injustice and they declare that If the liquor dealers don't back up, something some-thing "awful" will happen. When It became known yesterday that an effort had been made to stop the salo of ' "strawberry cocktails." "society "so-ciety fizzes," "pink frappes" and the like, about the llrst thing most of the fair lushers did waa to hasten down town to ascertain for themselves If tho report was true. After making sure that no one was In hearing distance, the anxious one would take the soda man Into her confidence and ask for her favorite concoction. If the woman was a regular customer, the drink would be forthcoming without delny. If, how-over, how-over, she was a stranger, the young man with the big whlto apron, would smile softly and shake his head: "We don't dispense liquor at this fountain, madame. I'm awfully sorry, but we have our orders you know." Perhaps the "regular" would call when the seats at the fountain were nearly all occuplod. Realizing that she might embarrass the soda man by asking ask-ing for an alcoholic drink, the sweet tiling would smile knowingly and ask for a "small glaeB of root-beer."
