Show IDAHO WILL BE IN LINE State Will Enter Republican Column in November DEMOCRATIC TICKET WEAK Ono Presented by the Republicans Is Invulnerable Took Hold With the People as Soon as Nominated and There Is Ample Evidence That It Will Not Only Poll Full Republican Repub-lican Strength but Will Draw From Opposition in Every Portion of the State u TRIBUNE SPECIAL Boise Ida Sept 6Now that thd Democrats have named their ticket an Intelligent estimate can be formed of the probable outcome of the Stale election elec-tion this fall It has been felt by Republicans that the State was ocr airily Republican that It could bo carried car-ried against any ticket the Democrats might name Now the sentiment la that victory ia absolutely certain though none suppose It can be achieved without a resolute effort The Republican Repub-lican ticket IB very strong throughout while that nominated by the Democrats has very few polntn of strength and many of weakness There Is no candidate candi-date on the Republican ticket against whom anything can bo urged cither as to his qualifications or as to his character char-acter orTICKET TICKET INVULNERABLE When the Republican convention met the purpose was everywhere manifest to nominate a ticket that would be invulnerable In-vulnerable and that purpose was achieved The ticket took hold of the people at once and there has been ample evidence that it will poll the full Republican strength and draw from the opposition in every portion of the State PLATFORM CAUSED SENSATION The platform adopted by the convention conven-tion caused something of a sensation In the first place the sheepowners did not believe the convention would indorse in-dorse the famous twomile limit law under which Bheepownerfl are prohibited prohib-ited from grazing their flocks within two miles of dwellings But the convention con-vention did adopt such a plank This angered some of the sheepmen but theiranger la cooling off and it In not likely that it will have any Influence on the results i TARIFF REVISION Another plank that baa caused much discussion Is that demanding early revision re-vision of the tariff and the placing of articles on the free list that arc conJ trolled by a monopoly The Democrats have been claiming that this Is Democratic Demo-cratic doctrine and they have seemed to think they could make capital for themselves by ridiculing the Republicans Republi-cans But they are talking too man The gun is loaded and they do not know it g POINT MADE CLEAR The author of that plank had especially especi-ally In mind the necessity for fighting the trusts with every weapon at hand and bring them thoroughly under control con-trol of the Government by the shortest possible road The spirit of the declaration declar-ation Is that of the man who leaves his hay in the field while he goes over to put out a brush fire that threatens his barn The fire must be stopped at whatever cost and this point will be made clear during the campaign HUNT EASY TO BEAT The Republicans have hoped that Gov Hunt would be ronominated They regard him as the easiest man to beat that could have been named by Ito Democrats This Is because there la nothing In his record In ofllce to commend com-mend him to the voter while he has done many things to alienate people who supported him two years ago PARDONING OF COCHRAN In the last campaign it was known that a dealbad been matle under which Paul Cochran the man convicted of murder in connection with the Coeur dAlene riots in 1833 would be pardoned in return for the votes of the element the convict represented But a great many Democrats could not bring themselves them-selves to believe that and he secured the votes of a great number who will this year decline to follow him Tha pardoning of Cochran In pursuance oi the agreement made during the campaign cam-paign was a great chock to the State and It has jiotboon orglven It was such a deflance of allthe rules of good morals that It has rankled In tha breasts of the people ever since HIS ADMINISTRATION A FAILURE Hunt was rcnomlnatcd this year on the theorythat he could command what la termed the labor vote But ho had that in the former campaign Consequently Conse-quently he can gain nothing There have been many things done by the administration ad-ministration that will further reduce the vote for the Democratic ticket The Governors control of affairs has been sucrh a failure that the party would not have thought of renomlnat Ing him had It not been for this idea that he could control the solid vote of the labor element and thereby win The remainder of the Democratic ticket Is weak with only one or two exceptions excep-tions Joe Hutchinson for Congress la about the only redeeming feature of It He is an able young man and If ho should be elected the State would pot have cause to feel ashamed POPS SENT AWAY BACK An interesting feature of the work of the Democratic convention wan the manner in which it treated the Populist wing Since the Populist party broke up some former members have been cooperating co-operating with the Democrats and a number of them were delegates In the convention In addition to these there were a number of Populists present at Pocatello calling themselves a Populist committee The committee worked with the late Populists who were members of the convention In an effort to scoura throe places for men of their political status They wanted ConglCMman Auditor Au-ditor and Mine Inspector but they got nothing Former Populists are now holding hose posItions und all were defeated for renomlnatlon SOCIALISTS FIGURE Another factor of the situation Is the organization of the Socialist party In the State It has nominated a full State ticket and Is making a canvass There arc many Socialist clubs and the vote for the ticket may be quite large That will undoubtedly be an Indirect aid to the Republicans as all voting that ticket will be persons who voted the fusion ticket two years ago STRENGTH OF REPUBLICANS A very large number of formorxPopu lists have joined lie Republican party Another element of added strength foe the Republicans In tho defection frora the Democracy which has beon constant over since the Philippine policy of thg Democrats was developed Still another an-other important factor 10 the prepon deranco of Republicans among the inv migrants It is believed that fully 73 per cent of all the agricultural Immigrants Immi-grants during the past two years havd been Republicans Hunt carried th State In 1300 by only 2160 Since ther has boon no Republican defection at any point It certainly looks as thougn the ticket named by the JlojjubUcanil this year wouldJxi elected I |
