party Is the only one that has dealt courageously and honestly with the trust question It enacted ns early as 1830 a law framed bv that distinguished Statesman John Sherman to prohibit and punish combinations com-binations In restraint of trade the control con-trol of wares or the advancement of prices This net framed by a Republican Republi-can Congress and signed by a Republican Repub-lican President has proved benellclal preventing abuses where abuses were found to exist and Is now being vigorously vigor-ously upheld by a Republican administration admin-istration In the prosecution ot unlawful combinations Subsequent to the enactment en-actment of this law the Democratic party obtained control of both branches of Congress and the Presidency It constantly asserted hostility to our party has found a worthy leader whose fearlessness In the discharge dis-charge of his duty and whose devotion to tho best Interests of the whole country coun-try prove him to be a worthy successor
