Show TABERNACLE CHOIR HOME t Excursionists Reached Salt Lake Yesterday Morning After Most a Successful and Enjoyable Trip HIlts History f Laden with orange branches potted plant huge bunches of callas and other I souvenirs of their trip the Tabernacle choir excursionists returned yesterday morning from their ten days Jaunt to California The frt ccctlon arrived at 1 oclock and the second a few minutes later l having completed tho entire Journey Jour-ney of over 2000 miles without a mishap mis-hap I was a tired but happy crowd that debarked from the trains and scattered about to hundreds of homes where kindred were waiting to hear the wnUnS te story of the trip Pleasantly as the ton days were spent It was with evident relief that the party saw once again tho Wasatch mountains and theplain of the Jordan and Salt Lake will be appreciated more than over for c time by the excursionists Perhaps the man In the crowd who experienced ex-perienced the greatest relief was Prof Evan Stephens upon whom to a large intent rested the responsibility for the safety and comfort of the tourIsts Ho had reason to feel proud of the result for of tho moro than live hundred who started for the coast ten dIY ago all but two or three returned In perfect health and with nono but the happiest memories Although the special train encountered raven wrecks along the route no accident of any kind marred the trip and thO delays were few and unimportant r Although the primary purpose of the excursion was pleasure four Impromptu tmprmptu complimentary concerts were given at various points and the music of the choir was enthusiastically applauded by thousands of people The greeting to the musicians was most cordial In every I respect and the choruses r the wonder and admiration of those who heard them for the first time Nowhere however was there such generous and spontaneous appreciation as at the two largo universities where the students made tho evening lively by the goo natured Jollying processes known to students everywhere The only fly In the ointment so far a on1 the concerts were concerned was the persistent lack of Instrumental facilities facili-ties of an adequate lend The various pianos and organs furnished for tho Lisa of Prof McClellan were totally unfltfor the requirements of the chorus accompaniments accom-paniments A fine new organ was found at Stanford but the new chapel chapl wna not sufficiently completed to permit of holding the concert there The trip was the most successful1 enjoyable ever taken by the Tabernacle choir said Prof Stephens The weather with the exception of one day was all that could be desired and the Callfornlans did everything possible to make our stay with them n pleasant one Still It ia I rather good to get home r again The memories of the cxcurslonHvIll be revived In n few weeks by a pictorial at various entertainment which the ontertnnmcnt rous scenes of Interest visited will bo thrown on a large canvas screen Charles John the son the official photographer with party took about 300 pictures for this especial purpose |
