but with steady buying 1 t I which augurs well for the season Collections I Col-lections are reported somewhat slow in I I trade circles on account of the large j I I amount of money which at this season I pay I A 1 ment of taxes This is a regular thing I however and occasions no apprehension j I I I apprehen-sion whatever In fact merchants f i1 1 generally report that their collections 1 1 for the year have been > kept up closer than usual so that the situation in this I t regard is really better on the whole u than prevails ordinarily ut this particular r par-ticular time r A feature of the dry goods business II I j is the high price of cotton which I threatens to put some classes of goods l I I I off the market Manufacturers claim II 11 I I that many of their products are being Ip L J 1 sold at a loss under present conditions 1 0 I and that another advance in the cost of the raw material would compel them to make orices which would prohibit I r I t their purchase by consumers Should z tiis situation continue it must of tl course lead to a stimulation of the demand Ic I de-mand for woolen goods which will result ij I re-sult In a sympathetic advance in these I rl The real estate market Is stagnant there is practically nothing being done i This is another seasonable condition of J I t affairs the market being invariably 1 1 dull for two or three weeks before Christmas and until New Years Buts But-s IH somewhat disappointing this year I t for the reason that general conditions 1 r j stride from purely sentimental reasons t i pertaining to the holiday season do not 1 f warrant a cessation of activity at this I i ill time There would seem to be every Ill Ii t reason why real estate should be strong and active The East shows signs ot c 1 recovering from the seem that with all these things to her credit Salt Lakes real estate should go both In and out of season and r t the dealers In that commodity are at a e iI loss to know why it docs not It is t <
