Show AGED WOMAN KILLED Mrs Ann Reid Met Death in a Runaway i HER HEAD STRUCK A TREE She was Sitting in a Wagon When tho Horso was Frightened by a Dog and Ran Through on Apple Orchard Mrs Reids Head Being Struck by a LimbDeath was Instantaneous In-stantaneous Had Been Twice Married Mar-ried and was an Old Resident An Inquest Held I Mrs Ann Reid tho aged wife of John T Reid a peddler living at Tenth South and Twelfth East met death L r t 7 GFr foo ffit fI I V iJf rlIVl G1Z v I = I l f I I 1 I C N lf W11 9 i 1 vt 11 I JJ V t h A ni 4 r I fi I J I Y 44 > 1 w I I 1 tiff II suddenly and In a most tragic manner man-ner at noon yesterday The old couple were out driving In a light wagon drawn by one horse They stopped at the residence of Sebert Schultz In Lincoln Lin-coln avenue between Eighth and NinthS Ninth-S uth Mr field went to the house on an errand leaving his wife to hold the horse While he was absent a dog rushed at the horse Jumping up and snapping at the animals nose Tho I horse which bad always been a quiet beast became frightened and dashed westward through an apple orchard I the yld lady being quite unable to control con-trol the animal When it had runabout I run-about lifts yards through the orchard a low projecting limb struck Mrs I Held over the left eye fracturing her skull the force of the concussion being be-ing so great that the limb a live brunch about three Inches in diameter was broken off Mrs Reid remained In the wagon her body swaying from side to side until the rig hud progressed about a rod further when she fell out and remained motfonl her death having been probably Instantaneous A number of people who had wit npsscd the tragedy rushed to her body and It was Carried Into a residence I nearby but it was soch that life was I extinct Drs AVItchor and McKonna vcre hastily summoned but no assistance assist-ance could be rondrrd The remains were later removed to the undertaking parlors of Joseph H Taylor The horse ran quite i I a distance after Mrs Hold w ttm s killed being finally caught by h Ezra Adams after the harness har-ness and wagon had been almost completely com-pletely destroyed An inquest was held by Justice Par dee and a Jury composed of Thomas W Cm n Sheridan II Smith and O R Raleigh The jury viewed the remains re-mains and later returned a verdict of l accidental death In accordance with the facts above staled Mrs Reid was a native t of England and was almost 02 I years old She camo came to Utah in lS65 and soon after was married to William Vance She was married to Mr Reid a year ago last April She leacs besides her husband hus-band n grown daughter who at present I ent resides In Pine valley Her aged husband apparently failed to fully realize his sudden bereavement bereave-ment until lie returned home Into In the afternoon The old couple lied all alone and whon he reached thf empty house and found It I nil I I cold and cheerless cheer-less ho broke completely down Kind neighbors soon came In however and prepared some food for him finally leaving him In somewhat better spirits The funeral arrangements have not V boon fully complrled as yet but the services will probably he l held tomorrow tomor-row at 1 clock from the First ward I meetinghouse I j iLz jI jI I Itiii Rez I c = m = = c = = LJ j f I c 4tI I A N I S 4 i r < rr r i V Mr7 u I fI iI < T The Killing of Mrs John Held |
