Show RAILROAD DETECTIVE SHOT UNKNOWN MAN FIRES A BULLET BUL-LET THROUGH HIS BRAIN Fatally Wounded in an Attempt to Arrest Men Believed to be Train I I Pvobbers One of Outlaws Shot Holdon Mo Tan 9Tohn Jackson a detective for tho Missouri Kansas Texas railway from Sedalla was shot through the head by an unknown man here early this morning Yesterday Superintendent D Hardy of the Missouri Mis-souri Pacific railway learned that an attempt would be made to rob the express ex-press car on the eastbound Missouri Pacific train due here at S08 a m fort S for-t Louis A posse wus organized In Scdalla under command of W 1 Cunningham Cun-ningham a secret service officer of the Missouri Pacific railway and left I hereon here-on a special train at S30 oclock last night for Warrensburjj where the Sheriff and special officers were taken L aboard When the train reached Holden the officers wcro Informed that the suspected sus-pected l men were at a resort and It was decided to arrest thorn as itwas believed l enough evidence had been secured se-cured to bring about their conviction Tho Marshal of the town another officer offi-cer and Jackson started to make the arrest saying they did not need any assistance As Jackson entered the house one of the men fired and a ball passed through Jacksons head just over the right eye Tho officer returned the bandits shot 1 but he and his companions of whom there was about six escaped Later ono of them badly wounded was captured cap-tured Jackson who Was taken to the hospital at Scdalla cannot recover 1 The arrested robber said his name was Shores and confessed numerous i robberies He admitted having held up i the Missouri Pacific agent at Independ cnce 0 few nights ago nnd of having I robbed the Plttsfleld poatofiice last Fri I day night It Is believed Shores and the I man who shot Jackson and escaped 1 held up a Missouri Pacific passenger train west of Kansas City January 9th I robbing the sleepingcar passengers Bloodhounds have been sent for to track tIll escaped robbers The proprietors pro-prietors of the resort where tho men i were corralled have tbeen I arrested for I harboring the robbers |
