Show WILL NOT CELEBRATE Now York Red Cross Will Postpone New Years Eve Exercises New York Dec 21hc Joint committee I com-mittee of the Municipal Assembly appointed ap-pointed to arrange the celebration of the opening of the new century on Nevy Years eve met today and refused to grant the request of the Tied Cross made through Frank D Tllgbco that the committee take up the proposed celebration to he held under the auspices aus-pices of the society In Madison Square Garden on New Years eve Mr Iligbce asked at the hearing that the committee take the lease of Madison Madi-son Square Garden off the hands of the society for that night and use Sousas Jjand which It had engagedr He further fur-ther asked that the committee purchase pur-chase n batch of greetings from rulers I and other personages of note all over the world the gathering l < Vwhlch cost the society 11000 Mr Hlgbeo said Chairman Sulzer pointed out that this one Hem would prevent the acceptance accept-ance of the proposition The Municipal Assembly appropriated only 2500 fortH for-tH celebration Mr Uigbec announced after this refusal re-fusal that there would be no Red Cross celebration on New Years eve The society would postpone the affair until March 1st the anniversary of the acceptance ac-ceptance of the Red Cross treaty by the United States and would welcome the cooperation by l the committee in the latter celebration I Chairman Sulacr estimates that at I least 1200 slngcrs will participate In I the New Year a celebration I |
