| Show BANQUET TO RETIRING OFFICER Feast Given to John R Winder and Oil Painting Presented to Him V by His State Fair Associates i I The outgoing of President John R I Winder of the Deserct Agricultural 1 and Manufacturing society and the assuming assum-ing of the reins of government by his I successor Nelson A Empe was fittingly fit-tingly celebrated at Reardsleys tavern yesterday at noon when all the directors direct-ors and officials except Mrs Bertha Bamberger who Is now In tho East met at a banquet In honor of the man who has served the t association for nearly half a century Those present were Mrs Ruth M Fox President Em pey Secretary Sears Treasurer E A Smith Richard Palfreyman Aaron F Farr Jr W H Streeper John C Cutler Cut-ler G F Beckstead J G McDonald Moses W Taylor and Wiley G Cragun Tho menu was a superb one and while being eaten was enlivened by numerous nu-merous witticisms and reminiscences ExPresident Winder was never so happy he said and this happiness was added to when John II White arose and asked permission for a few words I lie then told the retired president how I sorry the members were to think that he had deemed It necessary to sever his connection with the society and thanked him In btjhalf of the Suite for tho goqd work he had done Mr While then In behalf of the society presented Mr Winder with an engraved copy of I I resolutions telling the story of his connection con-nection with the society and thanking him for his labors At the same time Mr White presented the guest with TCvanss oil painting Feeding theCa the-Ca which took the 1o prize at the first State fair held in 1899 Mr Winder replied very briefly saying say-Ing he deeply appreciated the kindly acts on the part of the men and women with whom he had been associated He appreciated the present but above all to him was the good will of those present I enLPreddent President Empey then added his congratulations con-gratulations in a short speech and the old and the now president shook hands 1 the latter congratulating the former on the success that had attended hlrf work in the past and the former expressing the hope that success would follow the I future movements of the society A general handshaking followed and the banquet was over I |
