Manila Utah reported re-ported no action taken and the com mltte was continued The standing committees were held over Rev John Carver of Ogden Rev C M Shepherd of Evanston and Rev JR C Bailey of Sprlngvllle were given leave absence from Mondays session The matter of keeping the sessional records received considerable of a hauling over It being reported that the records In some instances Elder W rSct were appointed a committee to consult with the moderator moder-ator relative to the Installation Rev H H McCrccry as pastoratlargc reported re-ported favorably on the condition of the work particularly In southern Utah A fine mission chapel capable of accommodating 200 people In the auditorium au-ditorium and forty children In the schoolroom was reported built at St I George Work among the Indians was progressing satisfactorily and the Indians I In-dians were desirous that the Presbytery should send them a pastor The report embodied a letter from Miss Laura J3 Work at the Indian school who was anxious for religious effort among the Indians Work In the Bear River valley val-ley was reported a highly encouraging encourag-ing Rev H H Davis of Kaysville was appointed n committee to tabulate tho reports o teachers and report later Rev Da WIshard gave notice that he would olfer on Monday an amendment to the rules of the Presbytery relative to teachers reports so that hereafter reports from the denominational schools might be made by the principals princi-pals Instead of by the Individual teachers teach-ers 4 REPORTS WERE ENCOURAGING The reports from the different re-ported as specially prosperous Rev Dr McNlece was to have presented a paper Mormon teachings but reported report-ed that as the matter had been freely discussed elsewhere since the last meeting meet-ing of the Presbytery no paper had been prepared Rev F W Blohm was given leave to labor outside the herders her-ders of the Presbytery as he has work that calls him to Portland Rev C M Shepherd and Elder W S Glesey were elected commissioners to the next general gen-eral assembly with Rev George Bailey and Elder E P Sheldon alternates Under permanent committee reports Rev Dr Paden made a verbal report for the committee on church erection urging that thti Utah Presbyterians endeavor more to stand by themselves and to depend ns little as ponslble on help from Eastern churches He said the Evanston Presbyterians had raised 1500 among themselves for their new church edifice and Incldcntly ref ned r to himself as being specially Interested In church erection at this time Rev N E Clemenson for the committee com-mittee on education commended J3 J I Hanks and Mr Cusoff the latter a yQung Turk for their fidelity In preparation QuS ation for the ministry and nt his suggestion I sug-gestion they were continued under the care of the Presbytery nev R Cooper Bailey for the committee com-mittee on ministerial rollof reported 250 granted to Rev E M Knox of Wilmington Cal and 150 to S EDe Graf of Logan Rev T N Buchanan for the freedmens aid committee ad vl6d that more support be given to thu board ON SABBATH OBSERVANCE Rev George Bailey for the Sabbath observance committee reporotcd favorably favor-ably on tile resolution offered by the last general assembly relative to the publication and reading of Sunday newspapers and that the second Sunday Sun-day In each year he set apart for preaching on this topic A sentiment was manifested In the Presbytery not only In favor of this but against traveling trav-eling going to the poatofilce for malls and all secular work not
