Show CFFY SCHOOL TAX LEVY I Fixed at 810 Mills for the Current Year WILL PRODUCE 258199 This is About 32380 Less Than tho Board of Educations Estimate of its Requirements for Maintenance for the Coining School Year With Economy President Wilson However How-ever Thinks the Schools Can bo Kept in Operation for the Full School Year County Treasurer Lynch and Deputy County Assessor Jennings yesterday fIxed the tax levy for city school purposes pur-poses at S10 mills against 820 last I year The Hoard of Education fur I nlshed a statement of Its needs to run the city school for the next school year as follows and with this a a basis the levy was made For general maintenance 253700 of which it Is expected about 40000 will be derived from the State school tax II leaving 207700 to come from the city school tax interest on bonds 3nUOO sinking fund 11120 for purchase of school sites and the erection of new buildings 30000 total 333120 The total valuation of city property on which levies arc made is 31876516 against 30081739 last year the Increase In-crease this year being 1191777 The levy was made as follows For maintenance main-tenance 5y6 mills estimated to produce 17532053 for Interest on bonds 115 mills 3065798 for sinking fund Aft mills U344I2 for sites and buildings 1 mill 31S7G51 total mills 810 total estimated revenue 25S19971 exclusive of the Stale tax estimated at S4COOO This would leave the schools short for maintenance In the sum of 323SO but 5A mills is the highest rate allowed by the statute for maintenance For other purposes the revenue at the rate fixed if all taxes were collected would slightly exceed the amount required but an allowance of 2 per cent for un collectible tax was made It being absolutely abso-lutely necessary that there be no shortage short-age In the interest on bonds and for the sinking fund The shortage for maintenance may worry the Board of Education to got through for the full school year but with strict economy President Wilson thinks they will pull through all right The impression is although the members mem-bers of the Board of Education do not I admit it that they were a little liberal In the estimate for maintenance If it should however develop that the schools cant be run for the full year on the amount provided it is probable that the next Legislature will be asked to grant rollef by raising the bond debt limit or otherwise |
