Show E A MDANIEL RETURNS Aided Democratic National Committee Commit-tee During the Campaign E A McDanlcl returned to the city last evening after an absence of almost al-most six months Mr McDanlel attended the Kansas City convention where he acted as recording re-cording secretary and later prepared and published the official proceedings of the convention lie was with the national Democratic committee at Chicago Chi-cago during the campaign holding the position of assistant secretary of that committee I When asked last evening for a few impressions in regard to the campaign Mr McDaniel said To tell the truth I havent any I had a few welldefined Impressions and Ideas regarding the political situation but I must confess that they were all completely oblite rated by the result of the election What In your opinion was the cause of the Democratic defeat 7 was asked Too many Republican votes The national Republican committee had more money than we had and were able in my opinion to fool the people with the prosperity racket to such an extent that they enticed our votes away from us Thousands of men in the Middle West who were for Bryan up to within threo or four days of election and even on the day of elec lion changed and voted for McKInlev because the Republican orkers re mlndcd them that four years ago they were getting U cents per bushel for their coin and today they are getting 30 to 10 cents per bushel In my opin ion all such votes were obtained under false pretenses because the Republican party Is not responsible for the In crease in the price of corn The wars in South Africa and China are in tho main the cause of the Increased price of farm products But here I am not sticking to my text I told you that I had no Impres sions In regard to the election and I am telling you how It happened What about Utah Well I am not reconciled to that yet I told the peo plo about headquarters that Utah was all right that it vas absolutely cer tain togo for Bryan I was so posi tive on that point that one of my friends from Nebraska bet money on Utah on a proposition to name five Northern States west of the Missouri river that would go for Bryan He named Nebraska Utah Idaho Nevada and Colorado When he upbraided me I for inducing him to select Utah all I I Eo could say was JhAt he should have left out Nebraska I am one of those who believe that the Influences which brought about this astonishing result In Utah were altogether political Do you favor disbanding the Democratic Demo-cratic party In Utah No sir I am not In favor of that proppsltlon Utah Is naturally Democratic 1 Demo-cratic and if we go at It right we can redeem the State at the next election I cant go Into details as to the methods to be employed but I might suggest that It may be necessary to handle some questions and some people without J with-out gloves i 1 Canvass of School Vote The official canvass of the vote at the J recent school election made yesterday I by the Board of Education resulted as I follows 1 First precinct L Frank Brontuig r ju E W Wilson 1211 Brantlpgc majority 327 Second precinct A G Glauquc Gil Third precinct Oscar W Moylo 26T Scattering 20 Fourth precinct Joseph Gcoghegan 0J7 II P lIen erGon 749 Gcoghcgans majority 19S I Fifth precinct W A Nclden 252 Scattering s S Branting Glauque Moyle Gcogbe gan and Nelden were declared elected |
