as Before 0 TRIBUNE SPECIAL Nephl Utah Dec lOThe attorneys and witnesses in the Grand Central Mammoth controversy entered upon the last quarter of tho contest today with the determination to submit the case to Judge Higgins by Saturday next at the latest At the very start from the threequarter post however a new map Introduced by the Grand I Central was encountered and testimony testi-mony concerning it consumed fully twothirds of the days session Late in the afternoon Ross 13 Browne a I Grand Central expert was called and gave direct testimony up to the hour I of adjournment C P BROOKS EXPLAINS When court convened shortly after 11 oclock this morning C P Brooks the Grand Central map expert was called to explain the points of Interest on a longitudinalplane map showing the workings In both the Grand Central Cen-tral and Mammoth mines at the points In dispute In the Grand Central the I workings from the 400 to the 1000foot level are shown and on the Mammoth side the main workings arc shown down to the 1000foot level 1 The angles shown on the longitudinal section are the same as appear on the general plan map The testimony of Mr Brooks took up the entire time of the court from the opening tip to the noon recess R H BROWN TESTIFIES 1 Mr Urooks was followed by R H Brown who testified that certain surveys sur-veys from which the longitudinal map I was traced were made by him He also I testified I a to tho pypjectlon of various wordingsjshpwn t on time map u 0 V l u GBUKTON 0 was the next witness he testified thai tha-i ho had surveyed aportion of the stop Ing shown on the longitudinal map He further testified aa to the direction from the plane In which certain workings I work-ings were found The testimony concerning con-cerning the map having been concluded 0 cluded ROSS E BROWNE of San Francisco was called Mr Browne qualified aa an expert and then proceeded with his testimony on behalf of the Grand Central with regard re-gard to the Grand Central and Mammoth Mam-moth Mr Browne said that he had carefully InsJected the properties both upon the surface and underground He then pointed out upon the maps numerous nu-merous workings Into which his underground under-ground pilgrimage carried him On the Finn tunnel level Mr Browne said he found a crosscut running northerly I from the Sllveropolls south end line In bare lime for some distance He also testified that he found no Indications ot I mineralization in the Condon tunnel or I tho Finn tunnel crosscut On the Plummer tunnel levelho i found copper stains In a crosscut on the south end line on lot 3S north of the Sllvcropolla south end line On tho Mammoth tunnel I tun-nel level l he again encountered barren lime untlla portion of the Betsy slope I to the cast a crosscut wnsv found In barren lime from the vicinity of the I Betsy stope a small mineralized vein was found running northerly still further i fur-ther to the north and west of the westside west-side line of the Mammoth an un minerallzcd vein was found while other workings were In barren lime IOn the ICO level 1 sloping was found north of the SilvcropoUs south end line but other workings were In barren lime Tho back vein also appeared in this locality locali-ty This vein anti certain stopes were encountered On the 500 level further north the country was generally barren bar-ren On the COO level similar conditions prevailed On the 700 level barren limestone was encountered west of the west side line of the Mammoth and south of the Sllveropolls south end line practically no sloping being found Practically the same conditions prevailed pre-vailed north of the Sllveropolls south end line except that a small vein was found In the northern country In this locality a crosscut was found running to the Grand Central workings In barren bar-ren lime Ore and stopes were encountered en-countered on this level crossing the west side line of tho Sllveropolls on the SOO level The testimony was much the same as to the Mammoth workings On this level ore was also found In the Golden King to the north 0 At the conclusion of his pilgrimage underground Mr Browne testified that no outcrop of the apex of any large vein on Mammoth lot 3S nor any mlneralizallon was found north of the Sllveropolls south end line extended The strike ofthevein from the couth end of lot 38 woo given In the three sections ns northerly northwesterly and northerly respectively Along lie line of time strike as given by him the witness found s iall ilurca bounding the vein al cerlaln places In defining a vein Mr Brown said that It wasnt necessary for the vein lo be mineralized all the way lo con stltulc a continuous vein or ore body He determined the boundaries of the vein by the limits of mineralization in short the vein was a mineralized fissured fis-sured channel and the continuity of the vein could only be determined by the continuity of mineralization Testifying Testify-ing AS 1th respeot to the Grand Central slope map which was made at his request re-quest Mr Browne paid that lie line of slopes as projecled thereon represented tho line of mineralization through tho properties The apex pf the fissure upon which the Betsy slope north of the Sllveropolls south end line is situated sit-uated was fixed as west of thc westside west-side line of lot 3S south of the 1100 foot line The direct examination of Mr Browne had not been concluded at the hour of adjournment |
