Show I AGAINST THE INDIANS I United States Supreme Court Passes on an Old Claim I I Washington Dec lOThe United States Supreme court today rendered an opinion In the claim of the Wichita t Choctaw and Chlckasaw Indians In connection with the old Wichita reservation r reser-vation Justice Harian handing down the opinion In 1S61 the Indians made a treaty with the United States Government Gov-ernment ceding the Wichita reservation reserva-tion and agreeing to take ICO acres In severally The Indians claimed they were entitled to the proceeds of the sale of the surplus land The Court of Claims sustained the contention of the Indians but todays opinion reverses l that position the Supreme court holdIng hold-Ing that In the treaty of 1861 the Choctaws Choc-taws had made an absolute cession of the lands included in the reservation The court also remanded the case to tho Court of Claims with directions to dismiss the claims of the Choctaws and the Chickasaws and to fix such compensation com-pensation to tho Wlchltos as Is consistent con-sistent with law The reservation Is apart a-part o the old leased district of 7500 000 acres lying between the Red river and the Canadian river and the nine tyolghth and one hundredth degree of west longitude |
