Show DEALS WITH MORMONISM Rov E G Hunt Preaches Annual Missionary Sermon At 230 in the afternoon Rev E G Hunt of the Heath church delivered before be-fore the conference the annual missionary mission-ary sermon Mr Hunt described the conditions of the world at the coming of Christ and the influence the Christian I Chris-tian religion had since > wielded He told of the work of Christian missionaries and said that the results had In recent years been far greater than ever before He then turned his attention to Utah saying What did Christ behold When the first missionaries came to Utah All that was revolting In heathendom cruelty impurity and tyranny He then read from a Mormon document of April 9 1SB2 a statement that Adam brought Eve one of his wives to this world and in commenting he said The practical Idea of God then among Mormon Mor-mon leaders was a full developed Brigham Brig-ham Young That was the Idea of perfection per-fection Another Mormon idea then was tho definition God Is a being with body parts and passions as man The Idea of God was a great big developed polygamist which was as low as animal ani-mal worship There was cruelty here and If any one apostatized the only salvation was that his blood be spilled and the records are plenty of murders by the Danltes There was disloyalty here for the Stars and Stripes have been trailed behind an old wagon through Salt Lake and Jeered by the rabble and rocks were placed on precipices preci-pices to be hurled on Federal soldiers Thousands would not descend to these degredatlons but there were many who did Now It Is different and the present pres-ent definition Is God Is In form of man The hldeousness has been thrust back aiid that which is revolting has 1 been obliged to hide Its head from I Christian Influences He then read an article on theology from the Deserct SemiWeekly News of August 13 1900 which he said is not as we would give it but it has much truth in it and as I read the News 1 see progress Life and property are now safe and I find security and friendliness friend-liness and good honest people among the Mormons and many of them are Christians There is a mighty uplifting uplift-ing Influence going on in the Mormon church He concluded by referring to the satisfactory growth of Methodism I In Utah and of the hope of still better things that would follow I CANDIDATES EXAMINED I After the sermon a meeting of the examining ex-amining board consisting of Rev J W Taylor of Ogden president Rev E G Hunt of Salt Lake secretary Rev Joseph Jo-seph Wilks of Salt Lake and Rev A W Hartshorn of Corlnne was held Thomas Julius and J F Price were ex arnlnecl rtOr admission to the conference PK J Hansen was examined on the I first years course reading after admission ad-mIssion F M Topham rand H W I Parker on the second years course and Wildman Murphy on the fourth years course The result of the examination will ba announced to the conference 1 be tore its final adjournment Todays Conference The devotional exercises todays session will begin this I morning at 815 oclock This will be followed 1 by a business meeting of the conference which It is expected will occupy all the morn LogIn Log-In the afternoon at 230 oclock at Iliff church the Anniversary meeting of the Vomans Foreign Missionary society soci-ety will be held and addresses made by Mrs B S Potter Bishop Fowler Dr T C Illff Mrs J A Smith and a report re-port by Mrs Glllilan of the work done Miss Mabel Clark will sing as will also Miss Mary Lyons The Frcedmens Aid and Educational anniversary Wlllbe observed in the evening at which time DrCB Mason is expected to give an address in cane Dr Mason falls to arrive Dr II K Carroll will give an address on Porto Rico |
