Show WOODMEN WERE BUSY No Time Lost at the Sessions of Yesterday DRILL CONTEST ARRANGED Official Visitors from the Sovereign Jurisdiction Were Present at tho Morning Cession and Delivered Addresses 5k Ad-dresses Which Ii Were Well Received Portland is After Net Red Camp Meeting Report of Head i Managers Read Women of Woodcraft Wood-craft Also Had a Busy DayS Day-S The second days meeting yesterday S I of the sixth biennial session of I the Woodmen of the World had a full attendance h at-tendance At the morning session an invitation was extended to the four visiting teams to give an exhibition I drill this evening The teams represent tho Lcadvllle Guards composed of sixteen six-teen young ladles the Golden Gate canvp of San Francisco the WowWow of Denver and the Highlands of Denver I Den-ver and the Idea was that the exhibition exhibi-tion would take place at the lake Official visitors from the sovereign I urlsdSctlon were Introduced by Head onsul Falkenburg They were Sovereign Sover-eign Secretary Yates of Nebraska Sovereign Sov-ereign Banker Sheppard of Texas and it Sovereign Sentry Dradshaw of Arkansas Arkan-sas Past Head Consul A B Keith of Montana welcomed the visitors on be half of the head camp and Sovereign Sentry Bradshaw responded for the visitors In neat speeches which were well received Following this came the reading of the remainder of the head consuls report and a recess was taken I until 2 p m t I PORTLAND AFTER NEXT MEETING y MEET-ING At the afternoon session telegrams were read from the Governor of Oregon ir the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce S of Portland asking that the next head I camp session be held In Portland and i Is reported that Cripple Creek and LOS Angeles will also compete Neighbor x Neigh-bor Whiting of this city on behalf of the camps o Salt Lake presented the head camp session with the working tools of the order beetle wedge and nx The wedge and ax were made from the wood of D locust tree planted by ti BrIgham Young and the silver used in their construction came from the mines of Utah A letter was received from J C BaIrd United States Attor ney for Hawaii he having recently resigned re-signed from the board of head managers mana-gers to accept the position tendered him by President McKinley REPORT OF HEAD MANAGERS Chairman Hawley Sal m Or read the biennial report or the board of head managers which showed that one assessment as-sessment per month is ample to meet all the demands on the benefit fund I The affairs of the order were thorough ly 1 discussed In the report the head managers taking Issue with the report of the head consul on some points of material interest to the membership The head consul recommended a change in the plan for publishing the Pacific Woodman the official organ of the r durlsdjqtlon by sending limited number Ip num-ber to each camp and placing the paper 1 pa-per on n subscription basis The majority ma-jority of head managers recommend the continuance of the present plan for another an-other year The report of the committee on order of business was adopted after which with Past Head Conjul A B Keith In h the chair the report of the committee r on laws and grievances was considered until adjournment which was taken shortly after C p mm to prepare for the s evening parade arranged by the local camps MAY CONTINUE FOR A WEEK The convention continues in session i today and there Is so much business ahead that delegates think it may be over n week before the session can be S finished The entertainment programme for today includes an afternoon excur > Hlon to Saltair There wUl be a swimming 4 swim-ming contest at 4 p m a rowing contest con-test at 430 and a sawing contest at 5 p m and In the evening there will be waltzing twostep and cakewalk contests con-tests all with suitable prizes The committee on amusements consists of Ed L Sloan Alex Brown and A T 1 ChrIstenson |
