| Show THE FALLOF THE LAKE Water Now 0 Foot Lower Than the Low Water Record The level l ofGreat Salt lake has fallen to the zero mark on Ole scale board at Giirflcld one foot lower than the lowest low-est known record representing a shrinkage of thirteen Inches since Sep tember 1st last and being 2 feet S Inches lower than on October 1 18S9 Prof Ir < E Jones and Weather Director Di-rector JIurdoch went out to Garllold yesterday to take measurements and wih special care established the above record They found the scale board which Is attached to the northeast pie of the pavilion entirely out of water by reason of sandbars to the north oC 1U So they dug a trench flfty yards long and six Inches to one foot deep from the pile to the nearest open water level and let the water run up to the scale hoard The lake level was thus shown to be exactly zero Messrs Jones and Murdoch then established es-tablished a new means of measurement ot further fall by setting up a stone monument a quarter of a mile northeast north-east of thc pavilion where the water was just one foot deep the monument being one foot out of water Time beach watchman will take his aemlmonthly measurements from this hereafter and should tho lake level fall below this monument another one will be set further out Messrs Jones and Murdoch found ho G rfcl l pavilion practically out of water and the old boat entirely so They noted a shallow hole line running run-ning west from Black Rock past Garfield Gar-field and around to Lake Point a quarter quar-ter of a mile out |
