Show Jewelry, Pottery Exhibition Due at Utah's State Fair Utah artistry in jewelry and pottery will be displayed along with other fine arts at the Utah State Fair Sept. 7-16, H. Reuben Reynolds, Logan, Utah State Fair Board president, said. Mr. Reynolds, who is also head of the Fair's Fine Arts Department, De-partment, said this is the first year these skills have been included in-cluded in the art display. Mr. Reynolds noted that the entry fee in fine and mosaic arts categories has been raised from $1 to $2 to defray increased cost and help inscure "an excellent, not necessarily a big, show." Entry fees in jewelry and pottery pot-tery have been set at $1.50, with the fee in graphic arts remaniing at $1 per classification. All works of art must be delivered de-livered to the Arts Building at the state fair grounds Aug. 23, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Aug. 25 betwene 10 a.m. and 5. Mr. Reynolds stated that the Fair art exhibit is a non-jury show, that all works of art will be hung for "consideration by the four judges." "We are not interested in categories, cate-gories, just good art," he said. Art committee judges will be Donald B. Goodall, Austin, Tex., head of the art department at the University of Texas. Dr. Twain Tippets, Logan, head of the Fine Arts Department, Utah State University, who is now conducting a student tour in Europe; Eu-rope; Alex B. Darais, department of art instructor at BYU and an outstanding Utah painter, and Richard Van Wagoner, instructor in-structor in the art department at Weber College, and a successful success-ful Utah water colorist. Jewelry judges wil be Lellon Dutson, who received an M.A. degree in art at Utah State University Uni-versity and is now teaching in Ogden district, and Mrs. Dorothy Schimmelpfenning, who also received re-ceived her M.A. from USU and is teachig in Davis county district. dis-trict. Pottery judges will be Dr. Tippetts and Warren Wilson of BYU art department. Judges and Gov. and Mrs. George D. Clyde will be guests of Mr. Reynolds and the Utah State Fair Assn. at a dinner on Sept. 6. The dinner will be followed fol-lowed by a tea for judges, exhibitors ex-hibitors and fair officials |
