Show King Said Salt- Lake Would Benefit Oh Sewage Project Salt Lake City could benefit by as much as $800,000 on a contemplated con-templated sewage disposal project, proj-ect, under the pollution control bill which the House Public Works Committee reported this Wednesday, according to Rep. David S. King. The bill would boost the ceiling ceil-ing on federal participation in the construction of local treatment treat-ment plants from $250,000 to $800,000. "The increase is designed for the very purpose of encouraging the larger communities, like Salt Lake City, to speed action on proposed pollution control projects." proj-ects." the congressman said. 'The basic formula requiring the local communities to pay at least 70 per cent of the project costs is not changed. The boost in the ceiling, which so strongly favors the small communities, is long overdue," Mr. King said. "To the larger cities, contemplating contem-plating multi million dollar disposal dis-posal plants, the $250,000 ceiling on federal participation has offered of-fered almost no encouragement at all. i "While the attempt to boost the ceiling was vetoed last year by President Eisenhower, it is supported by President Kennedy and I am optimistic that Congress Con-gress will approve it," he said. The House bill would let the federal government cover 30 per cent of the first $1 million of projects costs, 15 per cent of the ! next two million, and 10 per cent of the costs above $3 million, up to a maximum of $800,000. |
