Show Booklet Warns Kids: Beware of Strangers A warning was issued this week to elementary school children chil-dren on the dangers of becoming to friendly with strangers. The warning came in connection connec-tion with the distribution of 100,000 copies of a leaflet published pub-lished as a public service by the Deseret News in cooperation with D. C. Stephens & Associates and state and local boards of education. Purpose of the leaflet is to explain ex-plain in pictures and words how children can avoid becoming possible victims of a molest or assault by a sex degenerate. For example, the leaflet warns children, "Never play alone in alleys or empty buildings," and "Never accept rides from persons per-sons whom you do not know." Children are also told, "Always "Al-ways write down the license number of any suspicious car." Dr. E. Allen Bateman, state superintendent of public instruction, instruc-tion, issued a special notice to parents in the leaflet. He said, "Throughout the country the police are becoming increasingly alarmed at the rising rate of cases involving the molesting of small children. This vicious type of crime can happen anywhere and at any time. You can help protect your children by teaching teach-ing them the fundamental rules in this leaflet." Distribution of the leaflets includes in-cludes most of Utah's school districts. |
