The county attorney reported that he had asked for an alternative writ of prohibition against the territorial board of equalization and had been refused. ALTERNATIVE WRIT REFUSED And the Only Hope for the Taxpayer Is to Appeal to the Courts to Decide De-cide Upon the Legality of the Increased In-creased Valuation of Assessed Real Estate. The property-owners of Salt Lake county pay the taxes. The raise of 10 per cent in the assessed valuation of the county by the territorial board of equaflzation will stand, and the property-holders have bnt one refuge, ref-uge, and that is to appeal to the courts. After the board of equalization had increased the assessed valuation of the property of the county, the county court instructed in-structed County Attorney Mprpby to apply to the courts for an alternative writ of prohibition, pro-hibition, restrarningj the territorial board of equalization. The writ was denied, and there is no hope for the taxpayers, except, as before Stated, to contest the right of the board to increase the assessed valuation. Eucberg applied for a free license for her husband to fiddle in the county. The clerk was ordered to issue a license for- a period of three months. ASSESSMENT RAISED. Notice of a raise of assessed valuation of the real estate of Salt Lake county as rs-turned rs-turned on the roll for 189:3 was read and referred re-ferred to the county attorney. The increased assessment amounted to 10 per cett on the assessed value, exclusive of improvements. ELECTION RETURNS. The returns of the election to vote bonds to the amount of 1 300,000 was made.
