Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1891. 3 E AIL ROAD TALK. IJodg, I'eabody and Palmer to Consider a Western Extension. The dispatch from the San Francisco Ez-vmin-given below furnishes an item of in-terest to Suit Luke : LosAxgeles, Nov. 3. Ex-May- W. H. Workman returned today from a month's trip to Utah, spent in formulating the plan lor a railroad from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, to connect with the terminal road of this city. There is a gap of 310 miles to build to con-nect the railroads now in operation between here and Salt Lake, and its construction will cost about $5,000,000,000. The money has fccou raised, and its building is now beyond peradventure, "The distance between Salt Lake and Los Angeles," said Mr. Workman to an Examiner representative today, "is a little over 700 miles." "The Union Pacific had two surveys to Los Angeles, one via Pioche, the other via St. George. It had selected the former route and had commenced to build part of the. road, as I have said. The other road leaving Salt Lake for the nouth is the Kio Grande Western, which goes 165 miles on the e.ist slope of the mountains to Salinas. It has contracted to build twenty-eigh- t miles further to Marysville, which will be started early in the year. "With one of thrse roads the eastern cap- italists who are to build this road will prob-ably contract, using their line from its stop-ping point iu the south to Salt Lake. "Whichever road is taken the objective point in California will be Ludlow, a station n the Atlantic it Pacific railroad about seventy-f- i vi; miles east of Barstow. From thence the trains on the new roads will come into Los Angeles. The road will bring Los Angeles 300 miles nearer Chicago and it will solve the problem of getting the decidu-ous fruit of Los Angeles into the eastern markets. "I want to sav in conclusion," remarked Mr. Workman, between the 20th and 30th of this month there will he in Los Au-jrel- President Palmer of the Denver & Rio Grande, the man who had the. tirrvn to am. sumfite that magnificent piece of engineer-ing work, putting the Denver Rio Grande through the Itocky Mountains; also Mr. Poafiody and Colonel I). C. Dodge, vice-preside-and genpral manager of " the Rio irande western railrond, nnd other uotable Tailroad magnates. These men will come here for business." If Workman was correctly re- - ported, lie was very much off his base in re- - " rd to General Palmers position for he has not been with the Denver & Kio Grande for several years. Railroad Spihes. T. H. Bennett returned from Kansas on City today's No. 1, where he had been attend-ing the monthly meetinc of the Trans-Mis-sou- Trafliic association. S. W. Eeclea went to San Francisco on Saturday tg escort Mrs. Eccles home who lias been visiting on the coast. They are ex-pected to arrive in',the city on Friday. Helena, Butte City. Dillon, Anaconda and . other Montana towns have selected their deloffnfs to the Denver mining congress, all of whom have agreed to attend. ; 5 . Ji ' " - - i nmfil1 i i ibm .in ii iii.i 2v. I knew one who learned ihat she had lovely hair. She took to doing it up with one hairpin, and she used to look like a mop on the third day of house clean-ing. She took to jerking her head too so that the hair would come down, and then she did look lovely, especially if it happened at the theater, at luncheon or in the cars. She would waggle her head so that her words come out scalloped, and her nose sot all spread around. A girl with a neat foot 5r, the worst nuisance I know. She always Jias it stuck out in the car. Her shoestring is always eomintr undone. She is forever lifting her dress up and making you nervous It just about spoils a girl if she finds out she has line eyes and pretty teeth.
