LIST OF ATTRACTIONS BOOKED FOR SALT LAKE'S THEATER. The Iteasnn that a New Opera Maine ha not Alrrecly lleen Const noted In Inn Finally I'nruliled Manager McCuurt rnbosoma Illnisplf. Colonel Teter McCourt. tho adroit and wary manager of the.Tabor Crand opera house and of the now famous and lucrative Silver circuit that hegins with the portals of that matchless struelure and extends to Ogden, is cele-brating the new year with a host of friends in Zion. Seen by. tho inter- - i viewer this morning, the' gentleman said: "It was our intention to have erected an opera house after the dissolution of the Walker, and to that end a number of your public-spirite- citizens were consulted. There was no disposition on their part to encourage such a pro-ject, however, whereupon we opened negotiationswith the management of the Salt Lake theater. This resulted in the solemnization of a contract that ex-tends through a long cycle of time. Money was appropriated for the over-hauling and of the theater, which now has few rivals on the circuit. To this play-hous- e go all the Tabor Grand attractions, and they will continue to go there until the con-tract expires. I don't see how a rival could thrive when I look at the at-tractions that have been billed as far ahead as a year. As it is now we can't till the books at the Salt Lake theater, owing to tho inadequacy of first class attractions. It could be done, of course, were we to resort to the barnstormer, but public patronage is too sensitive a thing to trifle or tamper with. There is not a city east or west that ex-tends more liberal encouragement to the drama than Salt Lake and to im-pose third class attractions on it would be ltagrant ingratitude. Wt are not confining ourselues to the Tabor Grand bookings alone but in the dearth of attractions are going beyond and skimming the cream from the outside. Our bookings for the season are "A 1." and include Hice'f Corsair. Natural Gas, The Howard Atheneum company, l.otta, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Corinne, The Sea King, which by the way is charming spectacular opera. The Clenienceau Case, Frederick Warde and Mrs. Bowers in tragedy, l'atti Rosa, Marie Wainright, Henry M, Stanley, A Barrel of Money. The The Texas Steer, All the Com-forts of Home. The Lyceum company. Babes in the wood and William Crane who does not start west until the spring of '!)'. The list is an excellent one and to it will bu added a number of others." Colonel McCourt leaves for Denver this evening and will be aeeomnanied by Mr. S. 1'. Vvry odd, ain't it, that just forty Tribunes should be sold every day in the year and no more; that every day there should be just six men that would take a notion to TilK Tmr.s nnd Her-ald. Queer mathematics of the doc-trine of chances. The showing, bad as it is made by the Tribune, is not for that matter bad for The Tim k. The news stand sale, granting the ac-curacy of the figures quoted, is no indi-cation as to what the circulation of The Timks is. The morning paper, which is printed in the Wee sins' hours of the morning, cannot be bought hot from the press as can tho evening paper, which issues during n seasonable hour. The people can't waif until it reaches the news stands. They want it hot from tho press with the news steaming from contact with the stereotyping cyl-inders. The tirst edition of TliK Timks never reaches tho news stands at all, It is sold out on tho streets. But it was a little hard on the part of the Tribune to compare the salo of its New Year's Uoom edition with that of the regular editions of The Timks and Herald. John C. I'.olilmon. 44 K.
