From January 1, lT, until the present pre-sent time, according to a record kept by Detective Howe, there have been sixty-five eases of homicide in Denver, for which seventy-one persons have been arrested. In six cases the slayers have never been apprehended. Of the seventy-one brought into court one has been Tegally hanged, thirteen have been imprisoned lor terms ranging from one day to life, twenty-four have been acquitted, six hail their cases nulled, null-ed, two committed suicide pending trial, one forfeited bail bonds and fourteen are still awaiting trial. Three convicted of murder in the first degree escaped the gallows through a blunder committed by the Seventh General Assembly. |
