Show WHERE BONANZAS CAN BE FOUND the recent labor strikes in colorado camps which have been so disastrous to the mining industry of our sister state have resulted in a feeling among prominent mining men that newer and greener fields exist in the heart of the rocky mountains where they can carry on successful and profitable mining operations without fear of harras by the walking delegate and where there will be but little likelihood of labor troubles intimidation or arbitrary and unwarranted demands in consequence of this feeling on the part of colorado mining men a small army of experienced operators are now invading this intermountain region and the vanguard is now to be found in many of our mining camps As a general thing these new comers are seeking bonanzas in some of our newer camps and in practically unexplored regions known to be possessed of mineral wealth but whose veins and ledges have been but little prospected as yet in many of these new camps in many of these highly mineralized erali zed localities a number of bonanzas are sure to be developed in the near future as colorado energy and experience never does anything by halves neither do their possessors pass by anything that is good without first making an exhaustive and careful investigation these new camps of ours these virgin fields of mineral wealth offer great inducements to the prospector and the investor but there are other fields where monster producers are to be found fields which for years have been neglected by the miner and of whose existence many are unaware we refer to the ancient and deserted camps in portions of utah nevada arid california camps which in the past in the early fifties and sixties were the scenes of the greatest excitement and whose mines from the grassroots grass roots were productive of mineral wealth galore of ore running ling into the hundreds and even thousands in its gold silver and lead contents mines which made fortunes for their owners in the early history of mining in the west mines which were closed down and abandoned before their ore bodies were exhausted some of them being hardly scratched the causes for this abandonment this neglect are many and some of them are childishly foolish of the former the great distance from transportation facilities was an important factor the rapid decline in silver and lead quotations was another cause for the closing down of erstwhile producers and dividend payers expensive litigation friction in management disagreement between companies and a woeful lack of knowledge and lack of minin mining ability experience peri ence and skill constituted other causes for the abandonment of a camp whose mines today today if operated intelligently would make a record in production which would doubly discount that of any new camp whose praises are being so loudly sounded the world over we know that there are many who take no stock in these old camps in the story of their once almost fabulous production but it must be remembered in the early days of mining in the west that the whole country was new and that the prospector had the pick of the best which he invariably took leaving what he cast aside for another generation to locate to gloat over when as a matter of fact the cream had been taken in the location of the magnia magnificent dicent ledges of the great ore bearing channels that paid enormous profit from the grassroots grass roots down as far as worked and in many instances the deepest workings hardly ever penetrated below the water level before the mine was abandoned leaving in its treasure vaults riches which would outrival the wealth of a rothschild a jay gould or a vanderbilt Tander bilt in looking for bonanza propositions these old districts and camps should not be passed up by those who are trying to get next to dame nature in their search for tier her hidden depositories repositories deposit ories of the precious and baser metals |
