Show SILAS W ECCLES S W eccles vice president of the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining company and who for many years previous to 1901 was a resident of salt lake died suddenly in st augustine florida on december at the age of sixty five years for several years he was traffic manager of the reorganized oregon short line and at the time of his death was president of the copper river northwestern railway the mexican union railway the nevada northern railway and a number of other roads at various times in his career in the west he occupied high positions in many railways of this section of the country and was prominent in civic and club life about sixteen years ago he became traffic manager of the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining and mining company since which time he has lived in the east from september 1886 to october 1887 mr eccles served as western freight agent for the union pacific railroad with headquarters in san francisco and then he became general agent of the southern pacific company with headquarters at el paso texas he was general freight and passenger agent for the mexican international railroad from may 1888 to january 1 1889 and general freight agent of the union pacific with headquarters at san francisco until january 1891 when he became general freight and passenger agent of the mountain division of the same railroad resuming his residence in salt lake mr eccles was advanced to assistant general freight agent of the union pacific and from march 14 1897 to february 15 1901 he served as general traffic manager for the oregon short line and from 1901 to 1904 as traffic manager for the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining company at new york mr eccles is survived by a widow two sisters mrs airs F E williamson of salt lake and mrs belle preston locke of spokane washington and his mother mrs susan eccles of washington illinois who is ninety years of age |
