Show appreciation during the closing month of the old year when the time had arrived when we usually begin preparation for the publication of our re regular 1 ular annual review number we felt some apprehension on account of the condition of the country because of war activities and the desire of every loyal citizen to assist the government to the very limit of their endeavor and financial means as to the advisability of getting out our usual special edition it was decided however to make the effort to do our bit to help make business good even if the issue should not be quite up to standard in size and volume of business contained realizing that if everyone laid down because of ad n verse conditions real or fancied it would not be long before the whole country would become demoralized and a comparative easy victim of the hated hun raider anil and so work was begun and in the pleasure of gathering together the contents of this number everything of a disagreeable nature was forgotten iorg otten the one thought being that ours was a most wonderful country unapproachable in its resources in material wealth in patriotic feeling in its unity of thought though and tand action and that we must all pull together big business with little business if we would make good in the struggle that the whole nation is engaged in results to us have been most gratifying and really astonishing for we are able in this issue to give our readers one of the best annual numbers ever produced in this office and this success has emphasized the old saying that faint heart never won fair lady or anything worth having for that matter in this connection we desire to express our appreciation of the support and nd recognition the mining review has received during the past year at the hands of our advertising patrons subscribers and loyal friends we appreciate the new business that has been accorded us during 1917 and entertain the hope that it will be continued and just as gratefully we appreciate the continued support of patrons who have favored us constantly year after year for so long a time and we refer with pleasure to the large number of subscribers who have had their names on our mailing list almost from the very beginning of our publication we also appreciate the loyal and generous support that has been accorded us in the preparation of this number and the kindness and operation cooperation co of the contributors cont abu to this issue many of whom are men of high standing in the mining metallurgical and technical world and whose articles beyond a question of doubt will be read with pleasure and benefit the world over we appreciate the fact also that because of the patronage and support so willingly given us we have been able to make the mining review better and better each year until today it has an excellent standing in the mining world and has the confidence and respect of its readers what the future has in store for the horld is only a matter of conjecture but the mining review believes that when peace has been declared and business conditions have settled down to a normal basis that this normal will overtop the highest level ever experienced in the history of the world and that in this time of progress and prosperity the united states will be one of the chief beneficiaries and our modesty does not prevent us from predicting that when this era is reached the mining review will reap its full share of benefits awarded together with its loyal friends and patrons |
