Show GOLD IN UTAH METAL splendid sh showing owing being made in this new bonanza at bingham utah the boston commercial of september 11 contained an article relative to the utah metal tunnel company of bingham utah in which the statement was made that an ail average 0 of f an eight foot face of ore assayed 60 ounces or 1200 gold and ounces in silver to the ton which gives this property the credit of being one of the richest gold producers in the state the statement seem seemed ed so incredible that an inquiry was made as to its truth and the mining review has been informed by consulting engineer E P jennings who is practically mine manager for the company that the condition was correctly reported on the day that the average sampling and assaying was made but that values were constantly changing and that although sue such high grade ore was frequently present it u shipping quantity that it was possible that on the next day when an average was taken that values would decline to 30 in gold with an appreciable increase the next da day the ore however is all of good commercial grade and is being handled at a handsome profit the commercial in the article referred to say smelter returns for the three months or of may june and july were the recovery was pounds of lead ounces of gold ounces of silver and pounds of copper ore extracted by leaser brought 2343 making total receipts of for the three months the following circular has been sent to stockholders the found in the early part of may is a large and irregular mass its dimensions men are not yet determined we are still drifting on ore and additions of considerable sid erable extent have only recently been discovered the length so far as known is over feet the original depth of twenty feet has in some places increased over fifty feet and the width is over sixty feet shipments so far have been from development operations and a single which is in what is called the 95 level the first drifting after discovering the was on the foot wall from this other lateral drifts besides upraising up raising were made with the design of preparing the for mining and producing the bulk of the companas comp anys production to date is not wholly from mining but largely from development the ore so far extracted varies from 19 to 20 per ton net at smelter to 33 per ton and some carloads car loads have run as high aes 46 72 and 80 per ton gold values continue high and are a great aid in maintaining ail results there is no trouble from excess sulphur which is often characteristic of metal found in bingham ground in drifting east on one of the levels a fault was encountered operations were continued through this fault thirty or forty feet and a second body of ore was discovered as to which there were at first doubts whether it was a continuation of the original or a new one subsequent operations have satisfied the engineers that it is a new body originating from independent fissures the only dimension of this yet ascertained is its width which is fifty five feet from the original drift on the tunnel level work has been continued under this second body and the first upraise to it has been started at a point thirty five feet distant this second is apparently of good shipping ore in drifting under the second body some work done in a westerly direction under the first body disclosed several thousand tons of ore which is an addition to the first ore body and adds materially to its value the estimates of value of the first body are that it will exceed net value Ore bodies of the character and appearance of this one when found in the bingham district generally run large the opinion of one of the engineers whose experience in mining in the bingham region is extensive is that ore bodies will likely be found going to the east in succession the same way as we have discovered the first and the second this however is of course a prediction and can be proved only by results it should be borne in mind that the region towards which we are drifting lies over by the old jordan claim which has produced many millions of dollars and towards the last chance group purchased two years ago by the united states mining company and as to which it is announced large production is already reached on the development of the first work was suspended on the drifts east and west from the station additional force however is now employed and within the past week operations have been renewed at the latter station continuing exploration at that point it is the judgment of our engineers that we ive shall develop ore bodies in these operation at this point on account of the discovery in the adjoining property of another company of a body of copper ore some thirteen feet in thickness and the fact that the same line bedding should be found within the boundaries of this companas comp anys property we have contracted for diamond drilling to ascertain whether this copper body exists in our ground results from these drilling operations will ibe be given to stockholders further exploration work by drilling or drifting or both will be done as soon as practicable the company has in its treasury available tor for this work not derived from income the sum of the company has received to date from the sale of its ore to the smelter As already stated we have sent to the smelter during the months of may and june 2924 tons of ore being at the rate of fifty tons per day for the larger part of that period during july we shipped ninety tons per day making a total for that thai month of 2736 tons from which the coill company received net after paying smelter charges during the month of august shipments have been increased for a part of the month to tons per day some two or three weeks alap elapse se before shipments to the smelter are settled for an and d the total receipts for august will not be known until past the middle of the current month contracts calling for the shipment of tons per day clay have been signed with the american smelting smelling Sm elting company and the united states smelting smelling Sm elting refining company the amount of these shipments can be increased when a spur track is built connecting the property with the binham bingham garfield railroad surveys and estimates for tills this spur have lave been made and negotiations are pending for its construction it is expected that this spur will be completed during the coming winter |
