Show Un unwavering watering i ng the emma property STANDARD ANACONDA MONTANA within 10 days the un watering of the emma mine will begin behind the big board fences that the half block between colorado and dakota streets just south of silver street a force of men under the direction of foreman james brennan is busily at work getting everything in readiness for the operation of the mine at the earliest possible moment those who have not been within the inclosure do not realize the rapid progress already made there the boiler room engine room dry ary office of the superintendent and other buildings are nearing completion andr and those who have been skeptical about the future of this property need only to go and look at the remarkable progress made in the short time since the anaconda company made the deal for the operation of the property the boiler room is the largest of the new build buildings on the ground it has a double boiler and the men are putting the finishing in the boilers one of the boilers has a capacity of horse power and the other of 90 horse power making the total horse power the building is sheathed with corrugated iron as are all the other structures close to the boiler room is the big engine room in which is installed already the engine from the old raven mine this will be equipped and ready for operation by the time the un watering of the shaft begins the new hoist is being built and will be ready soon and a force of men is now engaged preparing the timbers for the ore bins in the northwest corner of the property is located the new dry and the office of the foreman of the mine this is to be a model of its kind with every convenience already the shower baths and toilets are nearing completion and they will be of the most modern and substantial kind the two smokestacks smoke stacks from the boiler room are being put into place these are each sixty seven feet in height the electric pumps that are to be used in un watering the shaft are already on the ground and will be lowered within a few days day these pumps with a capacity of 1200 gallons will make quick work in un watering the shaft and underground work ings digs of the mine the shaft has a depth of feet and when the water is out and needed repairing finished the ore bodies will be in shape to begin taking ore out at once the plan it is said is to go 90 to the e 1600 foot level and perhaps connect with aith the original which lies to the north or the ore from the emma will have to be ibri hauled some distance to the nearest railroad spur it is reported that a plan is being considered for an aerial tram or overhead line to run directly south j from the center of the block between colorado and dakota streets to the tracks of the butte anaconda pacific road this is a distance of about five blocks and the grade is such it could easily be operated by gravity another plan under consideration is the hauling of the ore in large new auto trucks on the dump at the emma there is still quite a quantity of the ore formerly taken out of the mine it runs high in zinc values and at the time the mine shut down this zinc was looked upon as a detriment that was before the price of spelter was close to that of copper the reopening and operating of tho emam mine marks the extension of butte mining activity into info an entirely new par of the district that to the southwest thi th active mines in operation at present closes to the emma are the colorado mine of the davis daly which is just south of parl park street and east of arizona street or nearly half a mile from the emma and the nal which is north of copper street and half a mile to the north of the emma the emma mine will be operated by the anaconda copper mining company under a ten year lease from the owners the butte copper and zinc company |
