Show HEALTH REGIMENTATION ' Salt Lake City and county doctors and dentists, 122 of them, indorsed Dr. Arthur C. Wherry, Republican, as their U. S. senatorial candidate, seeking representation to stave "regimentation of health services." Dr. Wherry has not decided whether or not he will;run. """The main argument put forth by those who favor gov- i ernmental supervision of health services is that medical attention is too expensive. A's it is estimated that nearly $400,0000,000 i3 owed by patients of this country to their doctors, it is evident that inability to pay fees has not hindered hind-ered people from asking and not stopped them from receiv- ! ing medical attention. Why anyone favors regimentation of any service in the face of the depressing experiences of Germans, Japanese, ' Italians and Russians who are beinj told what to eat, wear and use under a system of the strictest governmental supervision, super-vision, it is hard to say. The great majority of medical men uphold the finest i traditions of their profession. They give freely of their talents tal-ents and training, too often without receiving the reasonable fees they ask. Specialist and skilled surgeons charge fees which are compatible With their training and proficiency. "Hospitalization is an expensive service. Cities and counties coun-ties that maintain them have found that they are not paying pay-ing investments. The greatest care and economy are necessary neces-sary to make them self-sustaining. Government regulation would not make the expense of a good hospital any less. ; Many people feel that there are two sides to the quea- j tion of any government supervision and do not desire the drastic change health regimentation would bring. The present pres-ent system which allows doctors and dentists to practice in private where they please and individuals to choose where they will get advice and treatment has definite advantages. |
