Show The hostile Indians took possession posses-sion of Hole in the Rocks stago station, sta-tion, about ninety mileB norlh of Fort Hall, on Sunday and held it, permitting per-mitting no one to pass either way. Captain Bainbridge of Fort Hall with a company of Shoshone and Bannock scouts started north on Monday morning morn-ing to meet the Indians. In the meantime General Howard is non est. Ho appears to keep so far in the rear continually as to be a dummy figure in the war. The eastern papers severely condemn his conduct of the campaign and call for his removal. It looks as if the hostiles would attempt to get out of the country by making a detour across the mountains via Snake river. |
