Show A Merohant'a Views. Salt Lake City, August 26ih, 1877. Editt.,-3 Herald: Kuowiug that your paper always manifests a deep interest in the puh-lic puh-lic welfare, I hope you will allow me brielly tu oiler my views as to the cause of the present stagnation iu business. Scarcity of money is not owing to the limited production ol the farms or the mines, nor altogether to the condition of the lead market. W have enough money here for present necessities il we only had the discretion to keep it here; but while circueses, lotteries and other amusements amuse-ments of a like character are patrou-ized patrou-ized so largely as they are, while they are permitted to profit by the thoughtlessness of the people without paying a protective license, while they are allowed to dispose by lotteiy of merchandise without paying a tax such as the businens men ol the city are required to pay, junt so long will hard times aflect us, and just so long will the lead market be regarded aa the cause of all our troubles. Let the cily enlorce laws of self-protection aud thbn let the shows come on. Mebchant. |
