Show EDITORIAL ENCOUNTER. Pat Hullaud nuil hmi. Gorman Kliiifc Vulgarity and Bullets With Little Effect. Bad Shots and Blackguards. (Special Telegram.) Pioche, Nev., 25. Qjite a lively shooting aft'iir occurred this evening about 8 o'c'ock, iu the doorway of the Eldorado saloon. Tne participants were Pat Holland, said to be traveling correspondent for tho Virginia Enterprise, Enter-prise, and formerly proprietor ol tho Piocho Record, and George T. Gorman, Gor-man, now local editor of the Record. Six shots were fired, Gorman apparently appar-ently had the bent of the situation,' Holland's piatol going oH prematurely while pulling it from his pocket. Gorman then got in two shots, Holland's Hol-land's pistol failing to go oil, whereupon where-upon he coolly placed it on his kuee, rearranged the trigger aud it went oil ..r..l.w, l-,Dr.H TUn rwirlicQ nrorc grazing 1113 hand. Iho parties were within ten fet of each other for the first five shots, aud did all the firing j around the centre post of the eaioou I door. Holland ran through the back I door, Gorman tiring one shot alter after him. Holland, in addition to the wound in the hand, was slightly wounded iu the left side. As far as known Gorman Gor-man is uninjured. The trouble arose from au article which appeared in this morning's Record against Holland, Hol-land, on account of his having written writ-ten up Pioohe for the Enterprise, and failing to mention the Record. This ' article in the paper this morning was i very bitter, and the latter part highly embellished with vulgarity, and giving I Holland a bad deal gouerally. This alteruoOB Holland got up an elabor-i elabor-i nte poster, written by himself, with highly colored pencilliugs, and con taiuiug language if auythiug more vulgar than that in tho Record. He pooled it on the side of Pres Wand's saloon, where it remained for hours. Gorman was out of town, apd upon his return loo iced up Holland and proceeded pro-ceeded to business. The sympathy is dmded somewhat, but the most is ! with Holland. Some loud remarks are made against the Record. |
