A significant piece of testimony testi-mony was given by Frank Levine, an employee for eleven years in the mint, who testified to overhearing a conversation between Superintendent Lagrange and Pmney ut the county jail, in which tbe latter told the former for-mer that he would preler no charges against him if be would join Pinney and his crowd and help them through. Lagrange suid he did not fear an investigation, in-vestigation, as nothing could be proved against him. Pmuey urged that however that might be, it would be cont Lagrange a good deal of money, and saiii "you know that through my people I can prove anything 1 want to prove." Levine accompanied Lagrange to jail for the purpose ol listening to the interview. |
