Show FEDERAL TROOPS FOR UTAH. A dispatch telegraphed to tho New York Herald from this city on Monday Mon-day evening, and' rctelegraphod to Salt Lake city on Tuesday morning, informs us that Govornor Emory has made a requisition or request for the 1 reinforcement of the several military ' posts in this territory, and Fart Hall, 1 Idaho, with several additional companies com-panies of infantry and cavalry. Tiie text of tho governor's letter to the secretary ot war is not furnished, but ' t,c rvirrn.rwirfrtt r.f H.o KTunr Vni-lr Herald and tho Tribune stateB that' his excellency has informed tlio war department that danger to the public peace exists here to au extent de mandiug the pretence of the additional addi-tional troops asked for. If these reportere state correctly the governor's gover-nor's language, he must either have soma information on the subject which is not in the possession of tne public, or ha has given bis official ear and voice in aid of the little clique who aro working up an excitement excite-ment in regard to Utah for outside efl'ect. Of course there can bo no objection to having additional soldiers stationed in Utah, and there will be very few persons in tho territory who will object to thia movement, were it not that tho peculiar circumstances under which tho troops are called here apparently cast a stigma upon the people and seem to give credence to tho insane and reckless efforts of a few mischievous busybodies to create tho impression that combinations are forming in different parts of the terri tory to defy the execution of tho laws and obstruct the course of justice. Being satisfied that every county and settlement of Utah is in the enjoyment enjoy-ment of profound peace and that no disposition exists or has existed on the part of tho people at any point to disturb the peace or interfero with the execution of the laws, we can but regard re-gard the action of the go pernor at this time as injudicious and ill-timed, unless he ahull be in tho possession ol some reliable facts to warrant his call fjr troops which havo not publicly trauspired. |
