Show Pkesidext Grant sent to the senate on Thursday the nomination of Moses M. Bane of Illinois, to be secretary of Utah in place of George A. Black, who is one of the last of the members of the old official ripg which once carried matters with a high hand in Utah gimder the leadership of Judge McKean. Of late years Secretary Black has been regarded as perfectly harmless, though his ridiculous proclamation pro-clamation abolishing the Fourth of July will not Boon bo forgotten. His official life has been much loncer than tho average of federal oflicers in Utah; but hia turn has come at last, and with the "white souled" be can ((art upon u new political career at Cincinnati, with a hope of aain becoming be-coming a federal pensioner should the republican party succeed in bagging bag-ging the presidential game next November, which is now somewhat doubtful. |
