Show The Codling Moth. The adjourned meeting of the orchardists and horticulturists, to adopt measures for the destruction of the codling moth, was held in the old Tabernacle last evening, Hon. WU-ford WU-ford Woodruff presiding. The orchards, orch-ards, both of the city and the country adjacent, were well represented, the number of horticulturists present being no less than 600. Published articles on the destruc tion of the insect were read, and remarks re-marks on the subject were made by Hon. Geo. Q. Cannon, and others, and the following resolutions, reported re-ported by Messrs. Thos. H. Woodbury, Wood-bury, John Reading and Jaa. Mo--' Knight, the committee appointed on the previous evening, were adopted: Besolced, That wa adopt, for the destruction of the codling moth, the plan suggesied in the article published in the Deteret News of February 11th, 1875, as affording the beat method at present in our possession. Resolved, That a united, intelligent and unremitting effort is indispenai-, indispenai-, ble to stop the further ravages of the moth. ' I Resolved, That the bishop of each ward or settlement appoint a man to take the oversight of the work, and mai ne appoint one or more persons on each block, as he may deem necessary, ne-cessary, to assist him; whose business it shall be to give the people all needed information and see that ti e work is prosecuted with earnestness and vigor. Reauhed, That the Horticultural society of Salt Lake city are requested request-ed to publish, from time to time, all information they may derive from any source, which will in any degree aid in the promotion of the fruit-growing and fruit-producing interest of the territory. |
