Show Water Service. 1 Editors Herald: I Bee by thia morning's Herald that the city has paid out over $9,000 to conduct the water towards the premises of consumers, as tbey are called. Now I agree with you that the outlay for the large pipes to conduct con-duct tbe water to the fire hydrants is justified, for if the Coop., Walker Bros., Jennings' and other stores were burnt up, goods would "hardly ever" again be aoid as low as tbey are now. In this way all the community is benefited. Doing thia does not infringe in-fringe on any of our old rights, aa it was always tbe rule to torn all tbe water that could be got into the nearest near-est ditch to a fire, regardless ol irrigation. irriga-tion. But what I can't Bee ia why the city Bhould pay anything towards conveying the water towards anybody's grounds to the detriment of the old settlers' rights. I Bay if any one wants tbe water let bim pay lor it all bitneelf. It is bad enough to have ao much water directed from the two channels, without the city I paying to have it done. During this, summer we old gardeners only got the Burplus whatever overflowed from the water works and eome of them who have pipea in their gardens have flowers and green grass kept alive all over their premises which is very pleaaant for lo Bee, while trees and bushes have nearly all died out (er want of water, in eome of onr places where tbe water ia only got from the ditches.
