Show Criminal Easiness. Four persona were yesterday ar-raigoed ar-raigoed on indictments found by the present grand jury. One is the caae Of the People against Thomas Oakey and George Allgood. Tbe indictment charges these parties with stealing, on the 12th day of Apnl of this year, portions of a certain planing machine and steam engine, of the value of $300, which property is alleged lo have been the property ol Nicholas Groesbeck. Oakey was arraigned and asked and was granted odo day in which to plead. Wm. Price, was arraigned and plead not guilty, to the charge of assault as-sault with intent to commit rape. The attempt is alleged to have been made in Davia County, on the person of one Eliza R. Saisted, on the first day of February. 1878. Wm. Douglas, who alao plead not guilty, is charged in tbe indiotment with arson, tbe crime alleged lo have been committed on tbe 25th day of May, 1S79, at 12 o'clock at night. This case involves the question as to what extremes a police officer oan go to retain a prisoner who is endeavor ing to escape. Oakey and Jonea were each released on $500 bonds; Douglas and Price were committed, being unable to give bonds. Lymam Shurtlifl, who was arraigned ar-raigned on Thursday, charged with assaulting H. G. Wright with a deadly weapon, and who was allowed one day to plead, came into court yesterday, yester-day, and by bis attorneys, demurred to the indictment. He gave bonds in $1,000, on which he retained hia freedom. I |
