Show City Council. Meeting of the city council, Tuesday evening, August 20th, 1S7S, Mayor Little presiding: A communication was received from Mr. James W. Cummings aet-n aet-n iorth a number of errors which Occurred in the report of the committees commit-tees to whom was referred the pro- position of Mr. Cumminga refe-r ing the matter of supervisor of streets, jailor, etc The auggeitiona contained , in the communication were subs'.an--tially those herofore published in the Herald. In accordance with some of the suggestions in Councilor CummingH' communication the errors appearing in the report of the com of the previous meelioi; approved. A petition was received from Jhn N. Pike calling attention to the noncompliance non-compliance of tbe reqiirtt of a ure-vioui ure-vioui petition which was referred to the strest supervisor to have a nuisance nuis-ance on Filth South street removei, and requesting that the supervisor be instructed to remove the cause for complaint. The supervisor explained that his inatructionj in regard to the matter provided that he should comply com-ply with the prayer in the regular i order cf work and that it would ye; he thirty days before the nuisance named would be reached. The petition was received and the supervisor super-visor instructed to attend to the matter mat-ter as soon as possible. A petition was received from J. S. Barnes, asking the privilege of using a portion of the sidewalk in front of his residence on East Temple street for the purpose of placing building material thereon. Petition granted under the usual restrictions. A petition waa received from Jere- opening a lime quarry. The petition was received and laid on the table. The committee to whom was referred re-ferred the petitioo of Carl C. Asm us-sen, us-sen, asking tbe privilege of planting trees opposite bis place of business on Main streot, reported adversely for reasons Bet forth in the report. The report was adopted. The committee to whom was referred the verbal request of Geo. B. Wallace, who represented a number of inhabitants iu the western portion of the city, asking for assistance to eecura the conveyance of water from Jordan to a western portion of tho city by means of a canal, reported, recommending tbe appropriation of $500, or so much thereof as will be necessary to defray one-third of the expense of such labor, providing those interested therein relinquish all claims to the waters of City creek, aud under certain other conditions specified in the report. The report was adopted. The committee to whom waa referred re-ferred the petitions of Dr. Williamson and others, and R, B. Margetts, asking for tho extension of the water in view of the fact that no water pipes are now in tho possession of the city,, it was deemed inexpedient to comply with the petitions at once; but recommended that the prayer of the petitioners be granted so soon as it necame practicable. Tbe council adjourned till 7 o'clock next Tuesday evening. |
