Show The Kemp ton Case j Boston. 20. The attorney general of Massachusetts gave the first bearing bear-ing to day in the case of Hiram H. Kempton, for whom requisition baa been issued by the authorities of South Carolina. Judge Abbott and Mr. Tunatall for South Carolina, submitted sub-mitted certain papers bearing upon tho construction of the law under which the proceedings are to Le beard and thereon rested their case. The counsel for Kempton held that his presence in South Carolina was required, re-quired, not to punish him, but to put him in such a position aa to com pel him to aid South Carolina , to rid herself of her obligations by repudiating Borne of her etate debts. An agreement was made with Kempton that he should be exempt from taxation fifteen dayB if he would go to South Carolina and give information. in-formation. This agreement was drawn up and signed in the St. Nicholas hotel, New York. General Youmans objected to the reading of the agreement but the attorney general gen-eral admitted the paper. Dickinson then called attention '0 the case of Senator Patterson who was arrested in Washington on the very indictment indict-ment and it was attempted to take him back to South Carolina. Recess.
