Show An Artificial Mule. Tho gentle reader has doubtless seen artificial flowers, artificial limbs, etc.; but comparatively few persons will ho willing to aver that they ever beheld or even heard of an artificial mule. The old aphorism that truth is stranger than fiction receives daily, "confirmation strong as proofs of holy writ." A fast mule is a good thing to have in the family tho abusive remarks ol Josh Billings to the contrary notwithstanding; but the mule in question was not fast, he was a loose character, apd being instigated in-stigated by the prince of darkness an 3 not' having tho fear of the city fathers before his eyes, was careering up First South street yesterday at tbe rate of about 11 j miles au hour with a saddle on his backj tho stirrups of which "hung loose at the sport of tbe wind." Ho was a white ruulo with a canary colored stomach, which wc have every reason to believe was artificially colored, and was scudding along easterly witli a fair wind and flowing sheet. A stem chase Is proverbially a long one and if the small boy who was in pursuit caught him it had not been reported up to the hour of going to press. |
