Show Chicaw seems to be deeply interested inter-ested in the orthodox status of its ministers. A little time since the Rev. Florence McCarthy, of the Baptist Bap-tist denomination, was crucified by the Mission I'ark congregation and put out of his pulpit; after that the Presbyterians started on Prof. Swing, ' but they find him a hard handfull, and now the Methodists are after the Rev. Dr. Thomas, for he is determined deter-mined to use " what little sense he has" in reading bis Bible. It is unfortunate un-fortunate for Dr. Thomas that he should feci disposed in that way, for as one of our Chicago cotemporaries avers "being a good rationalist he cannot be a good Methodist." Gerald Massey soems to have thrown tho fat ' in tho Methodist fire, and the Rev. , Dr. Thomas darts to snstaiu him i rather than John Calvin. "Ma- con- 1 science" that is terrible. The Rev- j erend in his warmth says: "If I be- , lieved God were Buch a being (as -Calvin represented j I should decline 1 either love or worship. I shall abide ( by my moral convictions and try to , keep what little sense 1 have, if the heavens "fall!" " Ma conscience," f these be terrible words. The Reverend ' Dr. Thomas will be cast out of the i synagogue, fturc. i |
