Show Cremation. The first instance of cremation known to have occurred in Utah, was at Beaver, a few days since. The spirit of Beaver Head, the sub Indian In-dian chief, took its flight to the abode of the Great Spirit, and hia dusky band, who were left behind, purified the lifeless carcass of Mr. B. H. by fire. They surrounded the body with the effects of the dead chicf-his blanket, blank-et, trinkets, tobacco, pipes, etc. then heaped on a pilo of wood and set fire to the collection. Those who witnessed the spectacle say the burning burn-ing was a complete success, the old man incinerating in fine style. A fatter Indian would undoubtedly have cremated more readily, but when the fire got fairly started on the corpse of the old brave, it soon vaporized it |
