Show Tlie Retrenchment Excursion To Lakeside yesterday was a success, suc-cess, and the committee have reason to be proud of their first endeavor to manage so huge an undertaking. Some little difficulty was experienced at the start, in not having sufficient car room, as numbers had made up their minds to go only a short time before the hour for starting, consequently conse-quently making a larger company than the committee had calculated for; but that was soon fixed. The day at the grove was Bpent in dancing, music by Prof. Thomas' string band; swinging; eating and drinking; quoit-pitching quoit-pitching and various out-door exercises. exer-cises. At the lake about a hundred adies and gentlemen procured bathing bath-ing drMes and had a Bwim in the briny deep. One accident was all we heard of. A young girl, swinging in one of the Bwings, was being pushed to a considerable height, when the rope broke and she was precipitated ; to the ground, her face striking a shrub and gashing her cheek and otherwise bruising her head. With that exception and a good shower, ab.-ut fifteen minutes before the evening train came along to convey the excursionists to the city, it was a success. |
