Show The Impeachment lueNtion. Our Alta correspondent says: "There has a question been sprung here aUmt the impeachment of Andrew An-drew Johnson. It is left to tho columns col-umns of tho Hi-:i;ai.d to decide. Was he. impeached ?" Andrew Johnson was ''impeached," as the word "impeach" in its strictest strict-est sense, means to charge with a crime in office. But tho impeachment, impeach-ment, or charge, was not Biistainal, or elso ho could not have run for Congressman-at-large, in Tennessee, at the last election, against Cheatham. Cheat-ham. Andrew was duly impeached, Thad. Stevens and Ben. Butler being among the great inipeachcrs. But was ho guilty? The U. S. Senate, which had a sufficient majority of liepubliean voles, and sat on a jury, said "Xo." Of course wo have nothing noth-ing to say of the western "Eagle" that set his price too high, nor of the honorabie senator whose price was found to be of a more convenient figure. |
